Containing Garbage And Waste At An Event

If you're planning a large event, one big thing to think about is how you will contain and manage waste at the event. You may have many cups, plates, and food items to throw away at the least; if your event includes crafts or other activities that make a big mess, then you'll need to plan for even more types of garbage. Here are some considerations for planning the logistics of waste management.

Types of Containers for Events

There are a few types of containers that you can commonly use at these events. The first is a roll off dumpster. These dumpsters can be anywhere from 10 to 40 cubic yards, so they are a good way of collecting all of the garbage from your smaller receptacles. If you're on a budget, you could even have the dumpster be your main garbage bin. Another option is to use a disposable bag to haul away your garbage. These are heavy-duty synthetic bags that can be easily transported to your site and set up for quick takeaway.

Using Recycling Services

Another thing to consider is using recycling services like Uribe Refuse Services Inc for part of your waste disposal. You might get a better deal per pound on hauling recyclable goods than you will for hauling junk away to the landfill. And, it's a great marketing point for your event.

Getting People to Use the Bins

Once you have your bins in place, another challenge will be getting people to use the bins. You could consider hiring a garbage crew to direct people to the correct garbage or recycling bins and encourage people not to litter. Make sure that people know where your recycling bins are; they may litter simply because they're not sure where they can throw out their items.

Scheduling Pickups

One other thing to consider when planning out your waste management is how to keep the site clean. If it's a multi-day event, then you might want to schedule a dumpster pickup for each day of the event to keep the area from getting contaminated or infested with bugs. For a single day event, you may still want to schedule several pickups, one for immediately after the event and one after the cleanup crew has gone through the area. If your clean up crew has a clean dumpster to work with, they can be much more efficient since there is less clutter to contend with.
